Overview

As part of the New Media program I took a video class at Rhode Island School of Design. Besides learning the basic know-how of video editing in Adobe Premiere and effect creating in Adobe After Effects, each student had the task to create a 5-minute video. The only requirement was, that it shouldn’t succeed 5 minutes and contains self-recorded audio and video footage.

My video piece “Contrast” is based on footage I took in New York City with the goal to find simple geometric shapes like circles and squares within the urban environment in the city. I then composed these forms then to a interwoven visual piece, which is cut rhythmically to the beats of “Galvanize” by the Chemical Brothers. It is a very simple video, but the work on this helped me to train my ability to extract simple forms from my surroundings, strengthened my video editing skills and formed my visual perception further.
