Task: Create a self-portrait for your colleagues in class. Make use of Wurman’s five hatracks to begin organizing data about you into accessible information for your audience. Consider goals for the project, your audience and their expectations, and what about yourself you wish to communicate. Your final piece should employ at least two hatracks – perhaps more for multiple layers and readings – and should be executed as a poster; the final size is your choice.
I first started thinking about what I want to communicate and how I can group that into Wurman’s five hatracks. I made lists of things about me that came into my mind. I tried to build a tag cloud with everything that has something to do with me: Wiebke. After tag clouding I tried to group the available information in Wurman’s hatracks: Location, Time, Alphabet, Category, Hierarchy.
I also decided I want to concentrate on the path that let to my passion for design, rather than sharing personal anecdotes (mainly because I couldn’t come up with anything that seemed especially funny, important, or not too private).
From the beginning on I always ended up with the location as an important factor in my life. Naturally the people and things that influenced me changed when I moved to a new place. Thus, I decided early that the most important grouping would be by location.
